PACKARD FOUNDATION
Criterion Ventures worked with the Marine Fisheries Program of the Packard Foundation to conduct a summative evaluation of grantmaking effectiveness in the last five years and to build a strategic framework for grantmaking over the next five years. This summative evaluation will be a meta-level evaluation looking at impacts and lessons learned so as to inform strategy going forward.
The project will included a number of dialogues that explored the overlaying system of human institutions that affects the health of marine ecosystems. The dialogues explored questions related to overarching rules of the game – both those that affect policies and markets; enterprise level finance structures and industry level financing; and conservation tools and how they might prepare for increased leverage. The team stretched thinking and looked for new opportunities and strategies not traditionally thought about while remaining grounded in appropriate conservation targets and goals.
