Analyzing a market’s political stability and volatility is core to investment risk analysis and decision-making about where and how to invest. A growing body of research shows that gender-based violence is actually a better predictor of state stability than traditionally used measures such as wealth and the strength of institutions, yet no data about gender-based violence are included in political risk analysis. Criterion, with support from the Compton Foundation, has led research into the links between gender-based violence, political risk, and financial analysis. In this overview, we lay out findings about influencing the field of political risk analysis and how financial analysts might incorporate material gender-based violence data to more accurately price risk.
