We are at a moment of great growth and innovation in the social capital markets, as we begin to apply investment capital toward solving some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental problems while also generating financial returns for investors. The opportunities and challenges we uncover will guide individual investors as well as shape efforts to develop the full potential of capital markets to positively impact women. We published this report to share the findings, resources, and information we gained while mapping opportunities, challenges, and returns more broadly.

Women Effect Investments (WEI) was formerly a program of Criterion Institute, led by Suzanne Biegel. The initiative transitioned in 2017 to the Wharton Social Impact Initiative (WSII) at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, to provide an information hub for content and experience in the field of investing with a gender lens.
